BOTOX CosmeticT is a purified protein which is extracted from naturally occurring bacteria and then rigorously processed under strict pharmaceutical manufacturing guidelines. This is similar to how penicillin is derived from mold. It is an approved drug that is used in very small safe doses.

Botulinum toxins have been used for neck spasms, cranial nerve disorders and eye spasms for more than 20 years. With the FDA's approval for cosmetic use, the drug is used to smooth facial wrinkles. When injected into facial wrinkles botulinum toxins block nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing muscles and smoothing wrinkles. Currently Botox® is the only form of botulinum toxin approved by the FDA for cosmetic purposes.

BOTOX CosmeticT is a treatment for wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. The most commonly treated areas include:

• the lines around the eyes known as crows feet caused by squinting or smiling

• the lines and folds of skin between the eyebrows caused by frowning
